The Washington DC office of Kirkland Ellis has recruited former Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan partner Paul Brinkman, a renowned US International Trade Commission (ITC) disputes lawyer with 23 years of partnership experience. Brinkman is now part of an IP team with over 230 lawyers internationally.


Bert Greene

Former Norton Rose Fulbright lawyer Bert Greene has joined Duane Morris to help establish the firm’s new Austin bureau. While Greene’s experience is primarily focused on patent litigation, he has extensive experience of handling all phases of copyright, trademark and trade secret litigation. The Austin office brings Duane Morris’ total branch count to 29.


Willmore F Holbrow III is the newest shareholder of Buchalter and member of the IP and litigation practice groups in Los Angeles. Holbrow’s expertise focuses is IP litigation, with an emphasis on trademark, patent, copyright and trade secret matters. Prior to his experience in private practice, he served as an engineer in the Air Force and a first-chair trial attorney in the Air Force Judge Advocate General’s Corps, handling felony-level cases.


Alice Kelly

Midwest firm Ice Miller has announced its recruitment of Alice Kelly to its IP team as of counsel. Kelly, who helmed her own boutique for seven years and most recently enjoyed a stint at Norvell IP, will be joined by associate Shyla Jones.


Elisa Cooper

Corporate domain management solutions provider Brandsight has hired two domain industry veterans to lead its client services, marketing and policy operations. Matt Serlin has made the move from MarkMonitor to lead the company’s client services and domain name operations. An active participant at the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), Serlin is former chair of ICANN Registrar’s Constituency, in which he assisted in drafting the 2013 Registrar Accreditation Agreement. The second is Elisa Cooper, who joins Brandsight from Lecorpio. A former chair of the ICANN Business Constituency, Cooper now leads Brandsight’s marketing and policy functions.


Statton Hammock has been appointed vice president for global policy and industry development at MarkMonitor. He takes up the leadership position following a five-year stint at domain registry Rightside Group and will assume responsibility for developing and implementing worldwide policy, strategy and business development.


Wolf, Greenfield & Sacks has welcomed Maria Scungio as a shareholder. Scungio has over 20 years of experience managing portfolios for recognised brands and was previously co-chair of the branding practice at Locke Lord. She is a notable addition to the already renowned boutique, which moved up to the gold tier in the WTR 1000 2017 in Massachusetts.


Matthew Fedowitz has become a shareholder at Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney. A life sciences specialist, equally proficient in prosecution and litigation, he joins the IP team in Alexandria, Virginia. Fedowitz’s career to date includes roles at Merchant & Gould and as an examiner at the US Patent and Trademark Office.


DLA Piper has announced the addition of Douglas Emhoff as a partner in the firm’s IP and technology practice, and its media, sport and entertainment sector. Emhoff, who joins from Venable, will split his time between the firm’s Los Angeles and Washington DC offices.


Theodore R Essex

Former US ITC Administrative Law Judge Theodore R Essex joins the Washington DC office of Hogan Lovells. Appointed to the ITC bench in October 2007, Essex has handled a number of Section 337 proceedings and is the only person to have served as the president of both the Pauline Newman and Giles S Rich American Inns of Court, which focus on the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and significant IP issues.
