WTR Industry Awards 2016: shortlisted teams and individuals revealed
World Trademark Review is pleased to announce the shortlist for the 2016 WTR Industry Awards. Amongst the corporate teams featured on this year’s shortlist are those from Apple, BMW, Citigroup, eBay, Enterprise Holdings, Google, Hewlett Packard, Itaú Unibanco, Mars, MasterCard, Moncler, PepsiCo, Red Bull, Tory Burch and Visa.
The nominees for in-house counsel of the year are Lesley Skipp of Billabong International, Enterprise Holdings’ Renee Reuter, Facebook’s Kat Johnston, Colm Dobbyn of MasterCard and Stephen Coates of Twitter.
This year marks the 10th edition of the awards scheme, meaning that for a decade World Trademark Review has been privileged to witness first-hand the tireless efforts of corporate trademark counsel as they seek to enhance protection of their companies' rights, fight infringement wherever it may occur and enable colleagues across their respective enterprises to maximise the financial and reputational strength of the brands they support. To mark this year’s milestone, we will be presenting a one-off award for ‘Team of the Decade’. Shortlisted for this award are Apple, Coca-Cola, GlaxoSmithKline, Google and Microsoft.
The winners will be announced next month. However, there is one award winner that can be unveiled today. The recipient of this year’s Lifetime Achievement award is Frederick Mostert, a past president of the International Trademark Association and former chief IP counsel of luxury group Richemont. A recognised authority on trademark law, he is principal author and editor of Famous and Well-Known Marks – An International Analysis, which has been cited in judgments around the world. Mostert is a recipient of a Life Achievement Award by the Global Legal Post and The New York Times, and in 2015 he was inducted into the IP Hall of Fame.
